Yoga for a Happy Body

Have you been wondering how to make your body happier? Not sure what your body really wants? Don't worry! I have just the thing!

Yoga for a Happy Body is a brand new class I am teaching this fall on Mondays at 9:15am at Roger Carter Community Center in Ellicott City. This gentle, loving yoga practice will make every part of your body smile! You can register online here: https://apm.activecommunities.com/howardcounty/Activity_Search?txtActivitySearch=yoga%20for%20a%20happy&applyFiltersDefaultValue=true&cat=Activities

Yoga for a Happy Body is sure to please even the most discerning body! This class will combine gentle yoga stretches and sequences with deep breathing and complete relaxation. Each hour-long class will feel like a mini-vacation or a day at the spa.

Learning to breathe deeply is step one. Normally, our breath is very shallow, using maybe a third of our lung capacity. When we learn to deepen the breath, to expand and fill the entire torso with breath, we stimulate receptors in the lowest lobes of the lungs. These are the receptors for peace and wellbeing. By deepening the breath, we learn to let go. Daily stresses, worries, and excess tension fall away. We are left in a state of bliss.

My most important rule is: Listen to your body. Your body is your best teacher. Yoga should feel good. Practicing yoga should make you feel better. If you don't feel better at the end of class than you did at the beginning, then something is wrong.

I am always happy to help students figure out how to make yoga work for them. Sometimes the solution is simple. You might need to use some props, such as yoga blocks, a folded blanket or towel, a chair, a small pillow or cushion. You might need to adjust the alignment of your spine or hips. Tiny changes can make a big difference. An experienced teacher will have all the tools and insights necessary to provide a positive yoga experience.
