Are you looking for a new challenge? Do you want to take your fitness to the next level? Do you enjoy spending time in nature? Do you want a workout that feels a lot like playing outside when you were a kid?
If you answered YES to all of the above, then you need to find an outdoor bootcamp!
If you live in Howard County, Maryland, you can join my bootcamp. We meet in Alpha Ridge Park in Marriottsville.
Our workouts always start with a careful and thorough warm up. We spend time getting every single joint moving. Once we're ready, we add an aerobic component to get our heart rates up. When we're warm, we head off to different areas of the park.
Every workout is unique. Sometimes we use the benches for step-ups and box jumps. Sometimes we use the tennis courts for various agility drills. Sometimes we use the stairs to work our legs in many different patterns.
Here's what happens in every single class:
*We sweat!
*We laugh!
*We encourage each other!
*We get stronger!
Bootcamp is great for both women and men. Bootcamp is great for both young and old. (I've had teens and seniors in the same class. Everyone does what they can.) Bootcamp can work for people with restrictions, injuries, and other issues. Bootcamp can be safe for everyone, as long as everyone takes precautions and uses common sense.
During the hot weather, anyone exercising outdoors needs to think ahead and be prepared. Never exercise during the hottest part of the day, unless you can stay in the shade. Drink plenty of water before, during, and after exercising. If your workout lasts longer than an hour, replace the electrolytes you lose through sweating. Wear cool, light clothing, including a hat, if you're in the sun. If you start to feel sick--nauseous, dizzy, confused--stop exercising, move to a cool place, and drink a sports drink to recover. It's safer to exercise with a buddy, just in case something unexpected happens.
