List Your Actions (What You Can Control!)

Are you struggling to lose weight? Trying to get fit? Or maybe you're pursuing a different kind of goal, like trying to break into a new career, get pregnant, or sell your home?

No matter what goal you're reaching for, keeping your daily focus on ACTIONS will help keep your attitude positive.

Let's say you are trying to lose weight. You might have 10 pounds or 100 pounds left to lose. If you focus on that number, every time you step on the scale you might be frustrated. The number of pounds you lose each day will vary. No matter how hard you try, it is impossible to lose weight consistently, day after day. There will be ups and downs. If your goal is to lose a pound a day, sometimes you might succeed. But many times you will fail.

But if your goal is to fast for a minimum of 12 hours out of 24, this is an action you can control. Each day, you can check this item off your list and know that you have succeeded. Or your goal might be to eat 2 vegetables at every meal. Or to ride your bike to work. Or to hit the gym 3 times per week.

Whatever your goal might be, stay focused on the action. Write it down. Check it off when it has been completed. Give yourself a gold star! Feel like a winner!

Here are some actions you can add to your daily to-do list if you are trying to lose weight. All of these actions are within your control. You can pick and choose from this list. Select only the actions that you KNOW you can handle. Leave the rest for later. (Or for never!)

* Drink 8 ounces of water BEFORE every meal.
* Get to bed by 10pm every night.
* Take a multivitamin every day with lunch.
* Meditate for 10 minutes every morning before work.
*  Eat 5 different veggies every day.
* Attend one class at the local gym.
* Go for a 10 minute walk after dinner.
* Have a chat with a supportive friend.

When your daily (or weekly) goals consist of actions you control, you will feel good about yourself every time you check another item off the list. You can maintain a positive attitude, fueling that feeling of success.
