Celery Fields Revisited

On our second trip to Celery Fields in Sarasota, we saw even more birds than the first time! This water management facility provides wetlands for more species than I've seen anywhere else in this county. If you're into birding, do not skip this location!

We parked next to the Nature Center, but once again we didn't save enough time to go inside. And we had planned to walk the entire 400 acre park, but only managed to do the same half as before. Despite all this, we caught sight of some beautiful birds.

Unfortunately, many of these birds were too far away to photograph without a bigger lens. I wish we had been able to get a good picture of one of the roseate spoonbills. These gorgeous birds were just one of the many special treats we saw.

A pair of Sandhill cranes were strutting very close to the road. They were not spooked at all when we approached.

This little duck is a pied-billed grebe. I only know this because the naturalists on duty told me! We also saw a few mating pairs of blue-winged teals and purple gallinules, as well as a few mallards.

A flock of parakeets perched on a wire. My daughter took this photo through a pair of binoculars!

Don't forget to bring your binoculars when you visit Celery Fields. Wear comfortable walking shoes and carry water with you. There are restrooms next to the Nature Center. Maybe I'll see you there!
