If you've been paying attention, you already know that metabolic syndrome seems to be a factor in susceptibility to Covid 19. From the data we've seen so far, more people who are obese, diabetic, or pre-diabetic with signs of metabolic syndrome are dying from this disease.
This sounds like bad news for those who are overweight. But the good news is: metabolic syndrome can be completely and permanently cured with a change in diet and exercise.
Have you ever watched The Biggest Loser? I know in the past this show has had serious issues with the methods used for losing weight. But I watched the most recent season and the show has drastically improved in every way. Contestants are now taking longer to lose the weight, meaning it is much more likely they will keep it off. And every contestant that lowers their body fat percentage sees significant gains in their overall health. Many completely reverse their diabetes diagnosis. Many are able to reduce or eliminate their prescription meds. Asthma improves. Sleep disorders are also cured.
Now is the time. If you are over weight or obese, now is the time to change this.
Now we are all home. We have complete control over our own food consumption. We also have time for exercise. I know we can't go to the gym or the Y, but everyone can make a space inside or outside their home for exercise. If convicts can exercise in a jail cell, we can certainly make room for some pushups and squats in our living rooms!
If you're working from home, I suggest you set aside some specific time of the day for exercise. If you're a morning person, get up early and workout before you start in on your other daily tasks. If you're a night owl, exercise after you've finished your work day. Or throw in a bunch of micro-workouts throughout your day. Do 20 squats while your coffee is brewing. If you have stairs, jog up and down them before your lunch break. If you don't have stairs, do step-ups onto a stable bench or chair. If you need inspiration, there are plenty of videos online. But keep in mind, diet is 90% of weight loss. It is impossible to exercise away a bad diet. Especially as we get older, diet becomes even more important for our health, wellbeing, and immunity. I've been writing this blog for many years now, and I've written extensively about weight loss. If you have specific questions, try using the search feature to see if I've addressed your concerns.
