If you've been following my blog lately, you already know that I've been going crazy with my morning coffee. I used to be a coffee purist--nothing but half and half for me! But things have changed dramatically. For the better, I believe!
These days, my hubby (also a former coffee purist!) and I are adding a BOATLOAD of stuff to our coffee. Now, in addition to all the supplements, we have turned to the spice rack. If you like a spicy kick to your coffee, you must try today's recipe for a SPICY Aztec mocha latte!
Do I need to convince you?
There are many excellent reasons--beyond the deliciousness--for adding spices to your diet. Cinnamon naturally helps to balance blood sugar. Cayenne pepper naturally raises metabolism and can assist in weight loss. Cacao powder contains theobromine which helps to balance the effects of caffeine, promoting alertness without the jitters and improving mood. Cacao and coffee are both loaded with antioxidants. We also add collagen to our coffee which is great for skin and joint health while promoting restful sleep. Inulin is a natural fiber made from Jerusalem artichokes, adding a subtle sweetness as well as a prebiotic.
But maybe you don't need a bunch of reasons! Maybe you just like to experiment with new recipes! In this case, jump right in and give this yummy beverage a try.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup half and half (or any type of milk!)
1/4 cup espresso or STRONG coffee (or more, if you like!)
1 teaspoon cacao powder
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon inulin
2 scoops collagen powder
Pinch of cinnamon (to taste)
Tiny pinch of cayenne pepper (to taste)
Boiling water (to taste)
Add all ingredients to a large mug, except boiling water. Using a handheld frother, blend your beverage while pouring in boiling water to taste. If using regular coffee instead of espresso or very strong coffee, you will not need to add any water. Adjust spices to your own taste. Enjoy! Makes one serving.
